Regional Authority for Transport and Climate Change dominate AMAL Budget for 2020

Another of the highlighted strengths was the constitution of AMAL's Forestry Office and a Brigade of Sapadores Florestais that will focus its action in the interior of the region.

AMAL's Intermunicipal Assembly approved the Budget and the Major Plan Options (GOP) for 2020, in an amount of around 4 million euros, which will allow the reinforcement of the work developed in adapting to Climate Change in the Algarve, Mobility in the region, the forestry area and the strategy under the next Community Framework.

According to the GOP, the year 2020 will be decisive in preparing the next European programming period (2021-2027). In this sense, AMAL has a plan called “Algarve 2030, from the perspective of the municipalities”, which seeks to coordinate a development strategy for the region in the next decade.

Next year will also be a year of affirmation for AMAL, as a Regional Transport Authority. It should be remembered that AMAL will award the concession of the Public Service for Road Passenger Transport to EVA Transportes, as part of an international tender aimed at strengthening and improving mobility on 98 lines in the south of the country.

The contract is expected to be signed later this year, and the service should be on the ground in August 2020. In the area of ​​mobility, AMAL will also continue to manage the Program to Support Tariff Reduction in public transport in the region.

Another important area for next year will be climate change, which requires actions in the short and medium term. In this sense, the year 2020 will mark the implementation of the Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change.

This Plan intends to provide the municipalities covered by AMAL's territory with adaptation strategies to the concrete threats resulting from the environmental degradation that threatens the planet.

In the Intermunicipal Assembly, whose work was directed by the chairman of the board Adriano Pimpão, the Motions of the Left Block were also voted and approved, which constituted a recommendation on the “Desalinization and reuse of water, to promote the sustainability of water resources in the Algarve” .

Two motions presented by the CDU were also voted, concerning the “Abolition of tolls in Via do Infante” and another concerning the “Creation of Administrative Regions during the year 2021”, a subject that will be taken to an extraordinary meeting of this body.
