Municipal Assembly approves suspension of PDM in Quarteira

The proposal had the votes in favor of the socialist bench and the Left Block, the votes against the PSD, CDS and the independent deputy, and the abstention of the president of the Municipal Assembly

The Municipal Assembly of Loulé approved, last Friday, December 13, the suspension of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) on the 1,3-hectare plot, where the fruit market takes place every Wednesday, right in the center of Quarteira.

The proposal had the votes in favor of the socialist bench and the Left Block, the votes against the PSD, CDS and the independent deputy, and the abstention of the president of the Municipal Assembly.

The purpose of this suspension is to prevent further developments from being built in an area where the concrete is already king and lord, to advance, instead, with the creation of green spaces and conviviality.

With the determination of these preventive measures, it is intended to reaffirm the «vocation of that central and strategically located territory, as a buffer zone of the surrounding consolidated buildings, aiming at urban development and environmental sustainability, for the enjoyment of populations, contributing to the affirmation of the city of Quarteira».

Indeed, the dimension and central and strategic location of the area in question, which constitutes one of the few unbuilt areas in the urban space of the city of Quarteira, «is essential to ensure the existence of urban decompression areas that can be integrated into the ecological structure municipal,” says the municipality.

The idea is to “guarantee spaces for citizens and a harmonious balance between the consolidated building and the areas dedicated to public space, whether this is translated into green spaces, parking, leisure areas, smooth mobility circuits or others”.
