PSD and Bloc want the Government to solve problems in Secondary Teixeira Gomes

Both parties addressed questions to António Costa's executive

The PSD and the Left Bloc want the Government to act on the resolution of problems at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School, in Portimão, which have even led students, parents and teachers to close the school, in the form of a protest.

Both parties addressed questions to António Costa's executive about what measures they have planned to solve this problem, for example in terms of hiring employees and works on buildings that are already in a high state of degradation.

In a press note, sent by Rui Cristina, Algarve deputy elected by the PSD, the Social Democrats expressed their "concern" with this issue, considering that, "once again, the Ministry of Education does not respond to the precarious situation and does not promote solutions in this public school”.

"This school year, the situation has worsened, with the reduction of 11 employees, in one of the largest schools in the municipality of Portimão, which demonstrates the lack of attention that education in the Algarve deserves by the Ministry of Education", he accuses .

João Vasconcelos, deputy of the Algarve from BE, visited the school on the day of the demonstration (Monday), meeting with the direction, where he found “the serious problems that exist”.

The expression of discontent among students, parents and teachers “is due to the lack of 11 employees and to the risks of Bloc B roir, where cracks of some size are clearly visible”.

"All these serious problems, in addition to generating a feeling of insecurity among the school community, impede the normal functioning of the school, leading to the closure of some services, which highlights the fact that during the night shift there are no classes, which affects approximately students», says the Bloco, in a press release.

Rui Cristina, deputy of the PSD, says, in turn, that «in a School that has been in operation for 35 years, maintenance works are urgently needed to ensure the proper functioning of the school and that the staff is replaced, in order to 1200 students and faculty can enjoy the minimum requirements, in terms of operational assistants».

For the rest, the Social Democrats also questioned the Ministry of Education about the anticipation of the transfer of competences of the decentralization process from the central State to the local government and, consequently, to the Portimonense autarchy, from the Education portfolio, without having to wait for January , which would make it possible not to jeopardize the present school year».
