Odemira celebrates Educating Cities Day throughout the county

There will be two initiatives: O Sofá da Escuta and The Tree of Desires

The Municipality of Odemira, as a member of the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities, will celebrate the International Day of Educating Cities, marked on 30 November, with an action of contact with the population and reflection, under the motto “Listening to the city for to transform".

The initiative starts today and runs until Saturday and will take place in partnership with the Parish Councils of the headquarters of the five educational territories – Colos, Odemira, Sabóia, São Teotónio and Vila Nova de Milfontes. The initiative is part of the OdeTe – Odemira Educational Territory program.

«It is intended to involve the educational community, associations, local entities and the general public with the realization of two distinct activities, The Listening Sofa e The Wish Tree, where everyone is invited to express their concerns and desires to build a better educational territory in the municipality of Odemira», explains the municipality in a press release.

A Wish Tree it will pass through the towns of Odemira, Colos, Sabóia, S. Teotónio and Vila Nova de Milfontes between the 28th, 29th and 30th of November.

On November 29, at 10:45 am, the Flag of Educating Cities will be hoisted at the Paços do Concelho de Odemira building.

On November 29th, the listening sofa will be in Jardim Sousa Prado, Odemira (between 9:00 and 11:00), in Largo Eira da Lagoa, in Colos (10:00/12:00) and Rua Gago Coutinho in Sabóia (16:00-18:00).

The following day, Saturday, the action will take place at the Mercado de S. Teotónio (9:30-11:30) and at Rua António Mantas, in Vila Nova de Milfontes (10:00/12:00).

The Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities is made up of 77 municipalities, which are members of the International Association of Educating Cities and which signed the Charter of Educating Cities, which constitutes a unifying element in defining the policies of member municipalities. Educating cities work so that education becomes a transversal axis of all local policies.

Odemira is part of the Portuguese Network Coordination Commission, together with the Municipalities of Almada, Lagoa, Lisbon, Loulé, Torres Vedras and Vila Nova de Famalicão.
