New concert inspired by texts by Sophia opens in Loulé

Concert is a tribute to Sophia de Mello Breyner

A show with new songs, based on texts by Sophia de Mello Breyner, starring the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve, will have its national premiere at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, this Sunday, December 1st, at 17 pm.

This show, which will feature the special participation of singer Ana Rita Inácio, is an artistic creation with texts set to music by Sophia and is the result of a commission from the municipalities of Lagos and Loulé to mark the centenary of the poet's birth, which is celebrated in 2019 .

This ephemeris inspired “a unique show, which combines the Word with Music. In this path, Lagos and Loulé, for their cultural teams, selected texts, which were set to music and used to create new compositions and original orchestrations, by the hand of Hugo Alves, which will thus be premiered in two concerts by the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve . The irreverence, the taking of positions, the tenacity and so many other strong characteristics of Sophia, thus pass to the musical world», according to Câmara de Loulé.

The Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve was founded in 2004 by the renowned national jazz trumpeter Hugo Alves. This Jazz Big Band, which has 18 permanent musicians, including voices, is the only professional jazz orchestra in the south of the country. In addition to concerts for the general public, he has already performed hundreds of concerts throughout the country, and has also been internationalized in Spain.

Tickets for the show cost ten euros for the general public and eight euros for people over 65 and under 30, with the Friend Card applicable.
