The 1st Spirituality Journey of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) takes place on November 22, from 9:00 am to 18:00 pm, in the auditorium of the Hospital de Faro.

“Spirituality in health contexts” is the theme of the initiative.

The objective is to promote the understanding of spiritual aspects and their framing in health contexts for the different actors (patient, family and health professionals); as well as providing knowledge about dignity therapy, as a brief and individualized approach to alleviate psychosocial and existential discomfort in end-of-life patients.

According to the organization, the «disease limits life and can lead the person to question aspects in the existential sphere, namely issues related to the meaning of life, transcendence, the relationship with others, its legacy».

The journeys are aimed at health professionals and the population in general, and registration is free and mandatory.

The initiative, which is organized by the CHUA Psychosocial Support Team, has the scientific sponsorship of the Portuguese Association of Palliative Care.

The event takes place within the scope of the LA CAIXA – Palliative Care program and has the participation of several specialists, including the author of the book “Death is a Day Worth Living”, Ana Cláudia Arantes.
