City Council wants more babies to be born in Lagoa

Meeting was attended by two hundred and a half people

“Perspectivating Birth: from Health to Society” was the theme for a two-day meeting, on the 13th and 14th of November, which brought together technicians, regional heads of health and the local municipality, at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, in Lagoa.

Anabela Simão, vice-president of the Lagoa Council, stressed that “to encourage the sharing of good practices and reflect on the issues of family, pregnancy, and children; think about the implementation of transversal strategies to the areas of promotion of birth in this region” were the main objectives of this event.

During the meeting, about two hundred and a half of participants and two dozen communicators were divided into thematic tables, workshops, and shared conversations.

The initiative of the Municipality of Lagoa was co-organized by the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS Algarve), the Barlavento Health Centers Group (ACeS Barlavento), and the Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ) of Lagoa .

Vice-president Anabela Simão, also responsible for the municipality's social action, shared the opening table with Paulo Morgado, president of the Board of Directors of ARS Algarve, and Leonor Bota, president of ACeS.

The first of these two days, aimed at health professionals, ended with interventions by doctors Paulo Simões, coordinator of the Personalized Health Care Unit (UCSP) in Lagoa, and Mohamed Americano, clinical director of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) . The second day was open to the public and professionals from the most varied areas.

“Continuing the challenge with all the people and institutions involved is now the task for every day to come”, concluded Vice President Anabela Simão, at the end of this specialized meeting.
