Algarve featured in the guide “Rural Europe in Motion” launched in Paris

Main objective is to take readers on a journey through the European countryside

“A Europa Rural em Movimento” is the Portuguese title of the publication launched on November 14th, in Paris, whose main objective is to take readers on a journey through the European rural world, meeting, along this path, the people and organizations that contribute to the sustainable development of these territories and communities in transition. The Algarve is one of those regions represented in the guide.

Over 13 chapters, readers can share the experiences, expectations and successes that mark the present and future of rural territories from north to south of Europe.

Istria, Slovenia, Karditsa, Greece, Isle of Eigg, Scotland, Pembrokeshire, Wales, Podlaskie, Poland, Algarve, Portugal, Transylvania, Romania, Bitola, North Macedonia, Beaufortain, France, Hallig Suderoog and Pelworm Island, Germany, Lesachtal, Austria, Gelgava, Latvia, Dronten, Netherlands, and Sicily, Italy, are territories where people and organizations have been working for a long time in the process of sustained and participatory development , based on the mobilization of local actors and the valorization of endogenous resources.

The common thread is the work of decades of “Forum Synergies”, a non-governmental organization heir to the “European Network of Sustainable Development Experiences”, a cooperation platform created in 1994.

Among many other activities, this platform organized, between 1996 and 1997, a cycle of debates on the 2000 agenda and a traveling exhibition throughout Europe of rural products, aromas, flavors and textures (Magical Mystery Tour) who ended his trip here in the Algarve, in December 1997, in a remarkable event that was attended by the then President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio.

Associação In Loco was the host entity at this time, as it cooperates and is part of this cooperation platform since its inception. «It was also through the experiences, strategies and utopias that we defend and for which we fight that Portugal and the Algarve were portrayed in this publication, now made public», adds In Loco.

The guide “Rural Europe on the Move” will soon be available for download (in English and French) from the website of the Synergy Forum and on the website of In Loco Association".

The publication's presentation, coordinated by the “Forum Synergies”, took place at the Palacio de Congresos de Montreuil, in Paris, on the occasion of the XNUMXth anniversary of the Fondation de France, which supported this edition.
