The best of French cinema passes this year in Portimão

It is the first time that, in the Algarve, the party takes place only in the city of Barlavento algarvio

A French Film Party will take the best of the seventh art to Portimão, from 5th to 7th November. This is the first time that the schedule has only included one city in the Algarve, in the case of Portimão. The Algarcine cinemas, owned by businessman Carlos Matos, a true enthusiast of these initiatives, will receive previews and even sessions for schools.

This year, the French Film Festival takes place in eight Portuguese cities: Lisbon, Almada, Setúbal, Coimbra, Porto, Portimão, Leiria and Beja.

Ana Bela Schwartz, from Alliance Française Algarve, told the Sul Informação that «this year the Party is not going to Faro, is only in Portimão. Having the Festival in both cities dispersed the interested people a lot, besides being a great financial effort. This year, we decided to bet only on Portimão and chose the rooms of Algarcine, Mr Matos, because he is a person who is interested and has dedicated his life to cinema».

In other words, guarantees Ana Bela Schwartz, the conditions have been created for a great Film Festival in the capital of the Barlavento Algarvio region. All the more so because all the films from the 19:00 and 21:30 sessions are previews.

Thus, in Portimão, the event starts with “Comme des Garçons”, on November 5th, at 21 pm. The 30 comedy tells the story of a sports journalist who one day decides to organize a women's football game. Without knowing it, Coutard – the journalist – will eventually be involved in the creation of the first French women's football team.

For the following day (November 6), “Le Voyage du prince” is reserved, in a session at 10 am, only for schools. The animated film tells of an old prince who is shipwrecked and goes to an unknown beach. Wounded and lost, he is eventually saved by a young man named Tom.

At 19 pm on the same day, Algarcine's screen will show “Première Année”, by Thomas Litli. This drama tells the story of two medical school colleagues who end up becoming friends, helping each other in increasingly difficult tests.

Also on 6 November, the comedy “Les Crevettes Pailletées”, by Cédric Le Gallo and Maxime Govare, will be shown. In this film, the plot centers on Matthias le Goff – a world runner-up in swimming – who will have to face prejudice and train a team for the Gay Games.

on the last day of French Film Party in Portimão, there are three more sessions. The first, at 10:30 am, is again dedicated to schools, with “Belle Et Sébastien 3” (Clovis Cornillac), a film about the adventures of young Sébastien and his dog Belle.

Later, at 19 pm, it is the turn of the dramatic comedy “Lola et ses frères”. As its name implies, the film is about the stories of Lola and her two brothers (Pierre and Benoit) and the marriage of one of them.

The event ends with the screening of “Alice et le maire”, at 21 pm, another dramatic comedy. In this film, the main character is Paul Théraneau, mayor of Lyon, who is going through an existential crisis, until he meets a young philosopher who becomes his advisor: Alice Heimann.

Tickets for the sessions cost 3,50 or 3 euros, which goes down to 2 euros for students and associates of the Alliance Française. All films are subtitled in Portuguese.

School sessions are free and reservations must be made to 289 828 881 or [email protected].
