Regional Management shows success stories in Agrifood and Sea Economy in the Algarve

Visits aim to disseminate "the best that is being done in terms of innovation, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability and socioeconomic impact on the primary sector and transformation in the Algarve"

The Algarve Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries (DRAP Algarve) will start on the 30th of October a series of visits to investment projects that are «successful cases in the areas of agri-food production, forests, fisheries/aquaculture and processing» , supported by community funds and located throughout the Algarve region.

These sessions, entitled “AMARaTERRA Routes”, aim to disseminate “the best that is being done in terms of innovation, entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability and socio-economic impact on the Algarve's primary sector and transformation, highlighting the role of entrepreneurs and companies that in a lot contribute to the reduction of socio-economic asymmetries and to the territorial cohesion of the Algarve».

In this first tour, three good examples of success with the application of community funds will be shown, namely Quinta das Seis Marias, in Sargaçal (Lagos), Salivitae, in Figueira (Portimão), and the Aqualvor fish farm, in Vale da Lama, Odiáxere (also in Lagos).

Salivitae is a company of two young farmers with higher education (Hugo Mariano and Ricardo Coelho), who invested in an innovative production of halophyte plants (Salicórnia), whose investment was supported by PDR2020.

A Quinta das Seis Marias was acquired in the mid-80s by the current owners. The mother and five daughters, all named Maria, gave rise to the name of the farm. The farm develops organic farming, outdoor and greenhouse horticulture, and some diverse fruit growing. On the farm there is a point of sale for the products produced and, more recently, accommodation in the Agro Tourism sector.

Aqualvor Piscicultura is an aquaculture company located in the Ria de Alvor, in the municipality of Lagos. The aquaculture activity began in 1989, with the production of oysters, simultaneously bream and sea bass, and also some sole from the estuary.

With a team of 20 elements, composed of biologists, engineers and technicians in the specialty, they assert themselves in the Portuguese aquaculture market as a reference company. Aqualvor was supported by MAR2020, as part of an application for productive investments in aquaculture.
