Are we going to pick figs, almonds and carob in Loulé?

The activity is free

A morning picking fig, almond and carob. This is the proposal of the Loulé Criativo project, next Sunday, September 8, at Quinta da Marroquia.

«The idea is that participants, whether tourists, residents, simple curious or appreciators of the most genuine Algarve traditions, can discover the mixed dryland orchard, in a morning that stimulates memories of other times, when picking these fruits was part of the people's lives», says the Chamber of Loulé

This initiative aims to inform and raise awareness of the importance of the mixed rainfed orchard, the potential uses of its fruits, its relevance as a landscape component and resource for the development of new activities, to be promoted among tourist agents and farmers.

The carob, almond, fig and olive trees have asserted themselves for their adaptation to the climatic and soil conditions that characterize the Algarve's Barrocal, where this intercropping of fruit trees has a greater incidence, and which in the municipality of Loulé occupies a significant area of the territory.

«As the mixed Algarve orchard is currently in decline, it is essential to enhance the value of figs, almonds, carob and olives, through processing and marketing», adds the municipality.

"This action is of enormous importance to preserve the heritage of the landscape, knowledge and regional culture of a resource that currently also contributes to the development of tourist entertainment activities."

The activity is free but limited to a maximum number of 18 participants over 10 years old. Interested parties can register until September 5th, through the email [email protected]
