Odemira remembers Amália with film, music and a visit to the fado singer's holiday home

Amália Rodrigues was born on July 23, 1920 and died on October 6, 1999

“Odemira Recalls Amália” is the name of the initiative that will take place throughout October, with several initiatives that aim to honor the fado singer and her connection to this municipality in Alentejo.

The initiatives will be promoted by the Municipality of Odemira, in partnership with the Amália Foundation and the Brejão Cultural and Economic-Social Development Association. Entries are always free.

On October 12, between 10:00 am and 17:00 pm, Amália Rodrigues' holiday home, on the beach named after the diva and next to Brejão, in the parish of S. Teotónio, will open its doors for visitors.

At 17:30 pm, “Amália – the Movie” will be screened, directed by Carlos Coelho da Silva in 2008, at the Centro Sociocultural do Brejão and, at 17:00 pm, a Campal Mass will take place at Quinta da Amália.

For the night of October 12, starting at 21:30 pm, a Fado Night is scheduled at the Centro Sociocultural do Brejão, which will feature the performance of fado singers Ana Valadas, Joana Luz and Fábia Rebordão.

Between the 2nd and the 31st of October, the Municipal Library José Saramago, in Odemira, will receive a documentary exhibition on the life and work of Amália Rodrigues.

Odemira thus marks the beginning of the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of the fado singer, with a vast program of activities to be carried out throughout the country and which will last until the end of 2020.

Amália Rodrigues was born on July 23, 1920 and died on October 6, 1999.
