Loulé presents a book about the Philharmonic Society Artistas de Minerva

The book “The Artists Philharmonic Society of Minerva – Historical Perspective” is presented next Tuesday, October 1st, at 19 pm, in the auditorium of the Solar da Música Nova, in Loulé. 

The work is by Luísa Martins, historian and senior technician at the Loulé Chamber.

This book appears in the context of the commemorations of the 140th anniversary of the Philharmonic Society Artistas de Minerva.

The book is the result of a work of collecting, safeguarding and organizing some documentary heritage preserved by the Municipal Museum of Loulé, in collaboration with the Sociedade Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva.

It is a historical perspective based on original documents, newspaper articles and other publications, interviews, photographs and other sources.

«With this book, a memory of a centuries-old Philharmonic Society is signaled, integrated in a municipality and in a population for whom music has always been a space for exchanging ideas, for learning and for disseminating the Art of Minerva», says Câmara de Loulé.

Luísa Fernanda Guerreiro Martins has a degree in History, a postgraduate degree in Regional and Local History and in Food – Sources, Culture and Society, a Master in History of the Discoveries and Portuguese Expansion and a PhD in History – Studies of the Portuguese Presence in Africa. In 1986, she entered the Public Administration as a teacher and trainer.

In 1996, he performed technical-pedagogical and research functions at the Algarve Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Culture, at the Center for Studies in History and Ancient Cartography of the Tropical Scientific Research Institute, and at the Loulé City Council, where he joined in 1999.

He held the functions of director in this municipality and is currently part of the team of the Investigation Service of the Municipality of Loulé.

The presentation of the book, which will take place on World Music Day, will be in charge of Ana Isabel Soares, professor at the University of Algarve.
