Lagoa will “clean the sea” at Praia do Pintadinho

Beach and sea cleaning by volunteers and dive clubs

An underwater cleaning to promote a change of attitude in the way we treat the Sea is the motivation for the partnership between the Municipality of Lagoa and Portisub, under the Blue Flag 2019. In this context, next Sunday, September 28th, there will be a sea cleaning action on Pintadinho beach (Ferragudo).

Pintadinho beach will thus be the center of operations for the second edition of 2019 of the activity “Let's Clean the Sea”, starting at 11:00 am. It is an underwater and beach cleaning, with the mobilization of volunteers and diving clubs.

“Let's Clean the Sea” is an environmental education activity that is part of the 2019 European Blue Flag Campaign, which this year has the theme “From the River to the Sea without Waste”.

As in the first edition, there will be a “Beach Laboratory” equipped with binocular magnifying glasses and other laboratory materials from Sítio das Fontes, to identify microplastics in the sand, and separate and identify other items collected during the activity.

The challenge in 2019 is, according to ABAE – Blue Flag Association of Europe, “to continue to raise awareness of the fact that marine litter originates from land activities, the consequences of human behavior and the role of rivers as a bridge between land and sea».

It is intended to draw attention to «the link between terrestrial and marine ecosystems and how life at sea is so dependent on small gestures in our homes... The initiative aims to involve everyone in the defense of the sea».

Everyone is invited to participate for free and, at the end of the event, registered participants will take a t-shirt commemorating the event.

The activity is an initiative of the Municipality of Lagoa, in a partnership for over a decade with Portisub – Clube Subaquático de Portimão, as a way of mobilizing citizens for the cause of preserving nature, within the scope of the Blue Flag Campaign in Europe .
