Photojournalist Luís Ramos takes a guided tour of Artur Pastor's exhibition in Tavira

Artur Pastor was one of the great Portuguese photographers of the XNUMXth century

The photojournalist Luís Ramos will, next Saturday, September 14, from 11:3 am, on a guided tour of the exhibition “Artur Pastor and the Worlds of the South”, on display at Palácio da Galeria (Municipal Museum of Tavira).

The initiative is aimed at adults and young people and does not require registration.

Artur Pastor was one of the great Portuguese photographers of the 23th century. He began his photography activity in Tavira, at the age of XNUMX, when he was serving in the military, capturing images of tuna fishing boats.

«In addition to the quality and recognition of the national importance of his work, the reason for this exhibition, in Tavira, is reinforced and justified by this initial path», says the City Council.

Born (1922-1999), in Alter do Chão, he was a photographer for the Ministry of Agriculture and creator of the Photographic Archive of this institution, for which he worked all his life. He produced a unique body of images, of great quality, vast and complete, about agriculture in Portugal in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

He also photographed activities related to fishing on the Algarve coast, Nazaré, Sesimbra and Apulia between 1942 and 1970. He published the books “Nazaré” in 1958 and “Algarve” in 1965, both with his images and texts. He held several exhibitions and collaborated with numerous national and foreign magazines and publications.

Luís Ramos, on the other hand, was born in Lisbon and was a photojournalist for Expresso and Público, of which he was the founder, reporter and photo editor. He is currently an independent photographer.

He has carried out several reports in countries such as Israel, Turkey, China, Russia, Morocco, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea, Cape Verde, Cuba, as well as in Europe and the United States of America.

Throughout his career, he was distinguished with several Fuji Europress Photo Awards (2000, 2004) and Visão de Fotojournalism Awards (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006). He exhibited in Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy, Denmark and Germany.

He is represented in the Art Collections of Fundação EDP, Fundação D. Luís I and Câmara Municipal de Tavira with the exhibition “Lapso de Tempo” (29 January to 2 April 2011).
