Faro will join the Golden September campaign, promoted annually by the Acreditar Association (Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Cancer), which marks the International Month for Awareness of Children's Cancer.

«As a way to sensitize the Farenses, the buildings of the Town Hall, parish councils, school groups, the Municipal Market of Faro and the headquarters of the Moto Clube de Faro they will be decorated with a flag, to be hoisted on the 13th of September from 15:00”, says the City Council.

As explained by the municipality, "the flags will be delivered by a motorcycle club rider and received by the head of the governing body of each member entity, who will symbolically hoist them in a visible place to mark the council's commitment to this noble cause."

On September 14, from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm, several information sessions will be held at the Municipal Market, activities that will be promoted by the Portuguese League Against Cancer – Delegation of Faro, together with the Oncological Association of the Algarve.

In the week of September 16th to 20th, an action will take place to distribute golden ribbons (an international symbol of awareness of childhood cancer), posters and pamphlets, made available by the Acreditar Association, to be displayed on the premises of various entities in the municipality.

Created in 1997, the golden ribbon (this color symbolizes the strength, courage and resilience of these children and young people) is the international symbol of awareness of childhood cancer.

This symbol honors children and adolescents with cancer, survivors, families and professionals, volunteers and doctors who dedicate their lives to this cause.

The coordination of the Golden September campaign is the responsibility of the Chamber of Faro, through its Social Intervention and Participatory Policies Division, which has the support of the Moto Clube de Faro and the collaboration of all participating entities.
