Engineers from 21 countries debate sustainable development at UAlg

Decarbonization will be one of the central themes of an international congress that will take place in Faro

The International Congress of Engineering and Sustainability in the 2019st century – INCREASE 150 will bring more than 21 people from XNUMX countries to the Instituto Superior de Engenharia (ISE), at the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve, in Faro, between the 9st and 11rd of October.

The organic unit of the Algarve university will organize this international event whose main objective is to «contribute to sustainable development in a multidisciplinary way». In the 2019 edition, “emphasis will be given to the challenge of decarbonization in the current climate emergency scenario”, according to UAlg.

In addition to climate change and environmental protection, the themes "Ocean and Coastal Technologies", "Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency", "Water for Ecosystems and Society", "Healthy Food", "Sustainable Tourism" will be addressed at INCREASE 2019, “Smart Cities” and “Smart Mobility and Accessibility”, among others.

The event “will involve national and international entities, including companies, academics and researchers, who make efforts to implement innovative strategies, seeking the sustainability of current societies in the various fields of Engineering”.

This congress, which touches on different areas of engineering – Civil, Electronics, Food and Mechanical Engineering – has as its target audience researchers, technicians and specialists, national and foreign, linked to the various areas of engineering, as well as to transversal themes and other related topics .

For Manuela Moreira da Silva, professor at the ISE and president of the Technical-Scientific Council of the congress, this is an initiative of great importance, considering that «specialists from the various scientific and geographical areas, who have been coming to the University of Algarve, will meet make efforts to create solutions for the difficult challenges to be faced today».

At the closing session, which will focus on the challenge of decarbonisation, there will be a presentation of the Culatra 2020 project, coordinated by the University of Algarve and promoted in partnership with the Association of Residents of Ilha da Culatra.
