World elite of rhythmic gymnastics disputes the World Cup in Portimão

250 athletes from 24 countries will be present

The world's elite of rhythmic gymnastics will be in Portimão from tomorrow until Sunday to participate in the last stage of the World Cup in the sport.

Portimão Arena will be the stage where 250 athletes representing 24 countries will provide a «high level sporting show», promises the Portimão Chamber.

In competition will be gymnasts such as former world champion Aleksandra Soldatova, from Russia, Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, from Italy, Sumira Kita, from Japan, or Anastasiia Salos, from Belarus. Portugal will be represented by athletes Laura Sales and Margarida Ferreira.

«In the 13 participating groups, highlight for some of the main teams of the present time, such as the cases of Italy, Japan, Belarus and Spain», highlighted the autarchy.

For João Paulo Rocha, president of the Gymnastics Federation of Portugal (FGP), «both the World Cup and the 28th Portimão International Tournament, which preceded it these days, are the most structuring events for the sport in our country, as many of the best gymnasts of recent times passed through here at the beginning of their careers and inspired Portuguese athletes».

 

 

«In this city, clubs dedicated to the sport already train a lot of gymnasts and do a very meritorious job, actively participating in district and national competitions. This is the result of the tradition that took root in Portimão. By the way, it is of elementary justice to highlight the role of the current mayor, Isilda Gomes, who has done a lot to reach this level with regard to the performance of the tests, for all the support provided», said the federative official.

This last stage of the World Cup starts tomorrow at 15:15, with the bow and ball exercises. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 21 pm and about half an hour later the five-ball competitions will take place in the sets.

On Saturday, the 7th, the apples and ribbon competition starts at 15:15 pm and at 21:30 pm, the three bows and two apples competition begins.

On Sunday, the day of the finals, the competition starts at 15:00 and intersperses the individual aspect with the groups, with protocol ceremonies being planned for 18:45, followed by the gala and the official closing.

Entries to the event, which takes place in the scope of Portimão European City of Sport, are free.

Organized by the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation, the Portimão City Council and the Portimão Tourism Association, this competition precedes the World Championship, which takes place between 16 and 22 September in Baku, Azerbaijan.
