Sal de Castro Marim is also served at the table in its restaurants

Sal de Castro Marim is in a «process of obtaining Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)»

«There are already dozens of restaurants» that have accepted the challenge of the Chamber of Castro Marim and put salt from this Algarve municipality on their tables (and menus).

The participating establishments receive salt and fleur de sel from Castro Marim to make available to their customers, replacing the salt shakers they have.

The initiative aims to bring the consumer closer to this product of excellence and valorization of the region's production matrix, increasing local products in the tourist chain.

Salt production is a traditional activity and one of the ex-libris of Castro Marim, which gives rise to excellent products collected manually in the Castro Marim saltpans, in the middle of the Sapal de Castro Marim Nature Reserve and Vila Real de Santo António.

According to Filomena Sintra, vice president of the Chamber, "it is a plan to replace industrial salt at the table with traditional salt and fleur de sel because traditional salt is naturally superior and rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium and potassium."

Sal de Castro Marim, revealed the mayor, is in a «process of obtaining a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)».

This initiative “Sal de Castro Marim at the Table of Restaurants” is an action of the application “Patrimónios de Castro Marim: Valuing and Promoting Local Producers and Endogenous Products”, supported by CRESC 2020 and supported by Portugal and the European Union, co-financed at 70% by the ERDF.
