A 12-year-old girl died as a result of a race that took place today, at around 8:25 am, at IC27, in the Monte Francisco area, in the municipality of Castro Marim. The child's mother, who was driving the vehicle, suffered minor injuries.
The mayor of Castro Marim, Francisco Amaral, was one of the first people to arrive at the accident site, according to an emotional report he made on the social network Facebook.
The Castro-Marinean mayor, who is a doctor by profession, says he saw the crashed car and, despite not having glimpsed anyone inside, he decided to stop. “It had just happened. Indescribable scenery. It's horrible. Jailed, mother and 12-year-old daughter», she said.
Despite the "delivery and professionalism" of the operatives who assisted the victims, the girl's death was eventually declared on the spot.
The rescue operation involved 26 operators and nine vehicles. INEM's helicopter was activated, but ended up not being used. Traffic on the IC27 was even cut off.
