Algarve Isabel Figueira becomes world champion in South Korea

Swimmer won the 50-meter breaststroke event

The Algarve swimmer Isabel Figueira (Club de Natação de Faro) won the gold medal this Sunday, on the last day of competition at the World Masters Championship, in Gwangju (South Korea).

The swimmer won the 50-meter breaststroke race, with 33,46 seconds, surpassing the national record in the 40-44 step that she had already owned (33,73) since July 20, at the Masters Open in Reguengos de Monsaraz.

The Portuguese woman had already been, in this World Cup, silver medal in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

In the 50-meter breaststroke event, 2nd place went to Smiljana Marinovic (Croatia), with 33,93 seconds, and 3rd place to Laetitia Dubois (France) with 35,19 seconds.

The Portuguese Swimming Federation also highlights, among the Portuguese, the 4th place for Susana Gomes (CN Funchal) in the women's 400 freestyle event, also in the 40-44 step (5.02,98 minutes), surpassing the national record. The previous maximum (5.04,18 minutes) already belonged to him since 15 July 2018, in Loulé.

The winner was Ceri Edwards (Great Britain) with 4.41,61 minutes, followed by Annet Von (Germany) with 4.45,64 minutes and in 3rd place Jane Kelsey (USA) with 4.54,96 minutes.

The swimmer José Freitas (Individual ANNP), also in the men's 400 freestyle event, got 4th place in the 55-59 step (4.37,97 minutes). The winner was Arnaldo Perez (Puerto Rico) with 4.29,19 minutes, in 2nd place Marcus Mattioli with 4.32,88 minutes and in 3rd place Michael Prufert (GER) with 4.36,31 minutes.

The Portuguese representation achieved six medals at the Worlds: two gold, two silver and two bronze.
