The Museums of Portimão and Loulé are the only two in the Algarve to receive funding from the Museum Support Program of the Portuguese Museum Network – ProMuseus.

In the case of the Portimão Museum, it was one of the recipients of financial support from this program, in Area 8 – Digital Transformation, with the project “Moedas do Arade. Two thousand years of history”, for the implementation of which he will receive 13.920 euros.

José Gameiro, scientific director of the Portimão Museum, explained to Sul Informação that this funding will allow «to carry out a project that has been in the pipeline since the opening of the Museum, ten years ago».

The idea is to create «an interactive, friendlier and easier way for the public to contact the coins and their history. These are tiny pieces and this new system will allow these coins, which have 2000 years of history, from the XNUMXst century until now, to be seen from all angles, in more detail, through a touch screen».

Basically, added José Gameiro, it is about «bringing to the surface the underwater history of Arade coins, which will be able to be discovered and interpreted in a friendlier way. The 50 coins will be displayed, but by clicking on each of them with the finger, the visitor will trigger the projection of that coin on its two sides and with a larger dimension, allowing to see the piece in more detail. For the first time, the Portimão Museum will be able to show these pieces in a permanent, dynamic and more accessible way», he concluded.

For its part, the project “Universal Accessibility Model – Museological Pole of Islamic Baths of Loulé”, promoted by the Loulé Museum, will receive a budget of nearly 12.500 euros.

Ao Sul Informação, Dália Paulo, municipal director of Loulé, explained that the model will show what the Islamic Baths were like, a complex that operated between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, and what the XNUMXth century building that was later built on top was like.

Both structures have been uncovered during successive archaeological and excavation campaigns. will now be valued with the creation of a museological pole.

«We are going to have a model that allows everyone, even the blind, to understand the various phases of the Islamic Baths and the Quattrocentista Palace. It will be a tactile model that is built and deconstructed as the story of that space is told».

This equipment will be at the Interpretative Center of Islamic Baths, space that is already in the project and whose works should start soon.
