Horse therapy helps the social integration of young people

Rotary of Almancil sponsored initiative of the association Akredita in Ti

The youth association Akredita em Ti promoted a public demonstration of horse-assisted therapy at the Pinetrees riding center in Vale do Lobo.

With this initiative, the association aimed to «demonstrate how working with animals can promote the integration of social rules and the development of self-esteem».

«It was possible to see the youngsters preparing the horses to enter the arena and the subsequent control over them. The GNR was also present at this event with two soldiers, in order to promote the approach of young people to the forces of authority», according to Akredita em Ti.

This action was fully sponsored by the Rotary Club of Almancil, which was represented in the initiative. Also present were Telmo Pinto and Joaquim Pinto, presidents of the Parish Councils of Quarteira and Almancil, respectively, and David Thomas, from Safe Communities Portugal.

«It is, in fact, motivating to realize that we are not alone in this cause and that, together, we can transform the lives of the young people we work with», said Sónia Luz, responsible for the Akredita em Ti association.

The association based in Quarteira has as its main objective “to promote social inclusion, training and empowerment, civic participation, and personal, social and cognitive development” of children and young people.
