Castro Marim will have a Home and Day Center for Alzheimer's and other dementia patients. The work, under the responsibility of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Castro Marim, should start in January 2020 and will be ready in 2022.

Santa Casa submitted an application, in May 2018, to PO CRESC Algarve 2020, and has now received notification of the decision to approve the project.

The new equipment will have the capacity to accommodate 70 people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, in an inpatient regime and 20 in a Day Center regime.

The space will have three action units: a residential internment unit and day unit, a unit to promote personal autonomy and intervention with families and a Training and Cooperation unit.

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia project in Castro Marim, «due to its size and scope, intends to establish itself as a reference unit for the entire Algarve and Baixo Alentejo region», highlights the IPSS.

According to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Castro Marim, this is “an important investment for the municipality of Castro Marim, not only for responding to the increasingly pressing problem of dementia, but also because it will allow the creation of around 40 health care posts. work, thus contributing to the development of the local economy.

The project has an eligible budget of around three million euros and will have a contribution of around 60%, within the scope of Investment Priority 9.7 of PO CRESC Algarve 2020, for “Investments in health and social infrastructure that contribute to the national, regional and local development, the reduction of health inequalities, the promotion of social inclusion through improved access to social, cultural and recreational services, and the transition from institutional services to community-based services».

The development of this project will also count “with the decisive support and commitment of the Municipality of Castro Marim”, concludes Santa Casa da Misericórdia.
