Faro already have the blue flags hoisted on the county's beaches

Bathing season runs until September 30th

The beaches of the municipality of Faro they have, since this Thursday, 27th of June, the blue flags hoisted. the beach of Faro, the Island of Barreta, the Island of Farol and Ilha da Culatra are the bathing areas of the Algarve capital that boast this award.

«Since 1987, the Blue Flag Association of Europe (ABAE) has been recognizing the commitment shown by the Municipality of Faro, Public Entities, Associations and Concessionaires, in compliance with the criteria for awarding this award", highlights the Chamber of Faro.

The autarchy recalls that the municipality recently saw all the beaches recognized with the seal “Praia Qualidade Ouro”; and Ilha Deserta Beach was, for the second consecutive year, awarded with the distinction “ZERO Poluição Beach”.

The Chamber of Faro also highlights, in this context, «the investments made by the municipality in improving accessibility in Praia de Faro, with a protrusion for the installation of the pier of the Nautical Center of Praia de Faro, in an investment of 157.834 euros, as well as the walkways mounted in Largo Cmd. Jacques Ives Cousteau, which improved access conditions».

This intervention, which is being concluded, involved an investment of 148.251 euros.

Regarding ongoing environmental education activities, the Chamber of Faro highlights the continuity of the partnerships established with FAGAR and the Vodafone Foundation (distribution of Beach Ashtrays and Photographic Exhibition) and the activities carried out by the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve (Ciência Viva em Rede).

Also in terms of environmental education, Praia de Faro was selected by ABAE to fly a 100% recyclable Blue Flag, made from PET (plastic produced from water bottles).

This action is the result of a pilot project that, according to the municipality, “intends to test the behavior of these environmentally friendly flags, which in the future may be hoisted on a global scale”.

The City Council of Faro also informs that it will ensure, in a complementary way, the reinforcement of surveillance and water rescue at Praia de Faro (Lifeguards), at four municipal beach stations, between 9:30 am and 19:30 pm.
