Road access to the village of Luz will be upgraded

Work will cost close to 1,5 million euros

The Câmara de Lagos is going to open a tender for the contract to renovate the road that connects Quatro Estradas to Vila da Luz, the main access to this «important holiday destination in the municipality of Lagos and the Algarve coast».

The work will have a base price of close to 1,5 million euros and an execution period of 300 days, with the start of the works to be appointed by the Lacobrigense municipality for «the last quarter of 2019».

With this investment, the municipality “aims to provide this access with better and safer circulation conditions”.

«The project intends to maintain the identity of the road, in terms of its rural characteristics, in order to perpetuate the memory of the territory, making it more urban and humanized, and allowing other uses (other than just automobile circulation) to diversify its enjoyment. The priority is to ensure a safe environment for pedestrians, without neglecting the safety of bicycles. It also provides for the infrastructure to be placed on one side of the road, the same happening with the footpath for pedestrians, which will have a high and autonomous lane», according to the City Council of Lagos.

The municipality adds that the signaling system will be remodeled, "since this coexistence presupposes the reduction of the maximum speed limit".

"In terms of infrastructure, the complete renovation of the water mains is planned, which will be installed under the sidewalk so that, in the future and in case of need, any intervention can be carried out without the need to interrupt traffic, as well as the drainage of the river basins and the construction of three water passages. The intervention also includes the creation of a rainwater network, the remodeling of the low voltage distribution network and the telecommunications network”, concluded the municipality.
