Removing sugarcane, an invasive species that threatens riverside ecosystems, from the Ribeira do Alportel Biodiversity Station is the objective of an environmental volunteer action for water that will take place on Saturday at 10:00 am.

This is an initiative integrated in the LIFE Volunteer Escapes project, which is running until 2020 and «is part of a set of environmental enhancement actions scheduled by the APA (Portuguese Environment Agency) – ARH (Administration of the Hydrographic Region) of the Algarve that will be carried out by volunteers during the current year, throughout the Algarve region», according to the City Council of São Brás de Alportel, which-organizes the action.

Those interested in participating should register via email [email protected] .

“By participating, you can take home some canes, which are extraordinary raw material for the elaboration of original handcrafted works”, suggests the municipality.
