Two Interpretive Centres, one dedicated to the EN2 and the other to Serra do Caldeirão, will open next July in the municipality of São Brás de Alportel.

These are two works under the responsibility of the municipality and which are already underway.

The EN2 Interpretive Center, at a cost of 60 thousand euros, will be built in the center of the town of São Brás de Alportel, near Largo de São Sebastião, in a «small building, which was an old support house for the corner-workers». explained Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás, to the Sul Informação.

«It was a property that was vacant and the municipality took some time to acquire this equipment, but we have already managed it. We decided to carry out works to create here a space in homage to a road that is so important for the municipality of São Brás, even in its creation, and which contributed so much to our development», considered the mayor.

Hence the idea of building this interpretation center of what is the EN2, dedicated "also to those who visit us", he said.

“Fortunately, more and more tourists are crossing the Nacional 2 and this is one more way to disseminate the road history of the country and the region,” added Vítor Guerreiro.

In this Interpretative Center, there will be, for example, «images and utensils used by the corner workers», in a way to «disclose the history of what is the EN2 in the municipality of São Brás, a road that, until the 60s, everyone had to do to get there the Algarve».

Moreover, the creation of "a small monument or landmark alluding to the EN2" is also planned, said the mayor to our newspaper.

This was one of the works visited last week by Maria do Céu Albuquerque, Secretary of State for Regional Development, on a visit to São Brás, as well as to future Zero Museum, in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo (Tavira).

For the official, «the Algarve also has potential in the mountains», referring to the work of São Brás as «exemplary», for taking «local resources and putting them at the service of the region».

And this won't be the only novelty that the council in the interior of the Algarve is already preparing. For July, the opening of an Interpretative Center in Serra do Caldeirão is also planned, a project that costs 80 thousand euros.

“It will be on the Parises site. Once again, we acquired a house that was vacant to install a project that wants to involve the community. The idea is for the people there to make the space more dynamic,” explained Vítor Guerreiro to our newspaper.

«We want to make known the life of the people of Serra do Caldeirão, recreating, in part, the traditional house of the people of the mountains, also with explanatory panels», concluded the mayor.

The works of the two Interpretive Centers have 75% community funding under the CRESC Algarve2020.
