Pedro Cabrita Reis is the guest of «Philosophy in the City» at the Portimão Museum

The conference will have a less conventional and more informal format.

Pedro Cabrita Reis, the most renowned Portuguese plastic artist, is the guest of this year's edition of the conference “Philosophy in the city”, organized by the Philosophy group of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes de Portimão School Group, under the motto “Arte, Filosofia & other delicacies”. The conference will take place on the 20th of May, at 18 pm, in the Auditorium of the Museum of Portimão.

Pedro Cabrita Reis was born in Lisbon and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. A leading artist on the national scene, he has exhibited and participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Documenta IX, the Lyon Biennale, the S. Paulo Bienal and the Venice Biennale. The complexity of his work encompasses a wide variety of media, such as painting, sculpture, photography, drawing and installation.

At the beginning of his career, he was a teacher at schools in the Algarve, a region to which he often returns, even because he has a house in the interior of the municipality of Tavira.

The conference will have a less conventional and more informal format, with public participation being encouraged.

The result of a partnership between the ESMTG Philosophy Group and the Portimão City Council, the «Philosophy in the City» conferences will provide all those interested in philosophy and in the critical debate of ideas an excellent opportunity to hear and question leading figures in philosophy and national culture.

This conference is sponsored by the Lisbon City Council and supported by the Professional School Gil Eanes de Portimão, the Faina restaurant and Quinta da Penina wines.
