New edition of “Raízes” presented at the anniversary of the Museu de Loulé

“Raízes” magazine, whose first issue was published in 2013, is published annually

The seventh issue of the “Raízes” Magazine is presented this Saturday, May 25th, at 16:30 pm, at the Museu Municipal de Loulé, as part of the 24th anniversary of this space.

The moment will feature the presence of Luís Filipe Oliveira, who will be in charge of the presentation of this publication.

The “Raízes” Magazine, whose first issue was published in 2013, is published annually.

“Who are the Louléans? How are? What characteristics do our culture have, what are our traditions?” were some of the questions that led to this publication, which invites the reader to learn more about the territory of Loulé and its people.

«In short, “Raízes” presents itself as a magazine for the dissemination of the municipality's Cultural Heritage and, at the same time, as a space for reflection and knowledge, contributing to the contemporary construction of Loulé's identity», says Câmara de Loulé.

In this edition, the following themes are presented: “We, the Louletanos – Carlos Albino” (by Salvador Santos), “In Memoriam – Joaquim Romero Magalhães” (by João Chagas Aleixo), “Our traditions – The Shoemakers of Loulé (by Teresa Mascarenhas) and the Festa dos Milhos” (by Sónia Silva), “Our stories – Corridor, emblematic area of Loulé (by José Gomes Cabrita, with an introduction by Luísa Martins) and From petromax to electric light: illuminated stories of everyday Loulé” (by Lígia Laginha) and “Our spaces of memory – The Palace of the Spaniards and the Solar da Música Nova – two noble houses in Loulé” (by Helga Serôdio).

The session is free to enter.

The Municipal Museum of Loulé is a permanent cultural facility at the service of the community and its development, which promotes research into vestiges of the past of man and its environment, acquiring, preserving and exhibiting them for educational, scientific and recreational activities, encouraging the safeguarding, enhancement and dissemination of the historical, cultural and natural heritage.

It had its official opening on May 25, 1995, with an architecture and museography project by Mário Varela Gomes, exhibiting a collection of materials resulting from donations, surface collections and archaeological excavations.

Initially with two rooms, on December 16, 1999, the Museum now has three exhibition rooms. Other initiatives have taken place inside and outside the Museum, from conferences, concerts, movie viewing, among others.

Installed on the ground floor of the former Alcaidaria do Castelo de Loulé, the Museum brings together the most significant archaeological finds, consisting essentially of sets of pieces from various sources, collected in urban or coastal areas, as a result of research projects, prospecting and occasional findings.

Other collections under study, kept in storage, come from the former Philharmonic Society Marçal Pacheco, Pedro de Freitas, the photographer Guerreiro and others.

Currently, the Museum exhibits in its three rooms a long-term exhibition dedicated to the archeology collection, with
sets of pieces from campaigns that took place in various locations in the county.
