About 40 thousand spectators watched the Grand Prix of Portugal F1 in Motornautics, which took place, this Sunday, in the waters of the River Arade, in Portimão, as part of the European City of Sport 2019. Shaun Torrente (Team Abu Dhabi) was the winner of the test.
The American driver dominated the race from start to finish and repeated last year's triumph, being joined by teammate Thani Al Qemzi (UAE), while the final podium position was occupied by Swedish Jonas Andersen ( Team Amaravati). 
In turn, the Portuguese Duarte Benavente (F1 Atlantic) could not get better than the 11th place, "despite the unconditional support of the public that was distributed along the banks of the river", emphasizes the Câmara de Portimão.
Pedro Fortuna, on the other hand, in the F4 race, won second place, having been only surpassed by the German Max Stil, which was «an additional reason for joy for the Portuguese».
According to the Municipality of Portimão, “the human frame that filled the riverside of Portimão had a large number of foreign motorized water sports enthusiasts, including many French, Italian, Brazilian, Spanish and British”.
João Paulo Rebelo, Secretary of State for Sports, Carlos Cardoso, President of the Portuguese Sports Confederation, José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, Paulo Ferreira, President of the Portuguese Federation of Motornautics, Maria Antonieta Batista, Angolan Minister of the Sea, and Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, were some of the personalities present this Sunday in Portimão.
RTP2 broadcast the Portuguese GP live in Motornautics, a broadcast seen globally by close to 500 thousand viewers, according to the municipality.
«On the previous weekend, the riverside area of Portimão had attracted a few thousand people, who attended the local stage of the Aquabike World Championship, which included a night race, while the Algarve presentation was taking place. Chefs Week, with the participation of 14 chefs from luxury units in the region», concludes the Câmara de Portimão.
