Women from São Brás called for breast cancer screening

Screening promoted by ARS Algarve runs until 13 May

All women between the ages of 50 and 69, enrolled at the São Brás de Alportel Health Center, will be called for a breast cancer screening that began this Wednesday, April 17, and will last until the 13th of May.

This screening is promoted by the Center for Screening of the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve (ARS), in collaboration with the Associação Oncológica do Algarve, within the scope of the Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve.

São Brásense women «will receive a letter from the ARS Algarve Screening Center with an appointment/invitation to undergo a free digital mammogram at the Mobile Unit, which is located next to the Health Center of São Brás de Alportel, from 09:30 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 16:30 pm, on weekdays», explains ARS Algarve.

Since July 2017, screening has been carried out in the Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Unit in 3D, with Tomosynthesis and computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD).

The Algarve is the first region in the country to carry out, in all municipalities, screening with this “state-of-the-art technology, which allows to increase the rate of detection of breast cancers, reduce false positives and the dose of radiation applied to each exam», adds the ARS Algarve.

The Breast Cancer Screening Program in the Algarve, promoted in partnership with the Oncological Association of the Algarve and the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, started in September 2005 and covers all the Algarve's municipalities, and is now on its seventh round , with the call, referral, management and monitoring of the program carried out by the ARS Algarve Tracking Nucleus.

In case of doubt (and if you have not yet received the letter inviting you to take the exam), you can contact the ARS Algarve Tracking Center by calling 289 889 912 or by email [email protected] health.pt.
