Grupo Vocal Olisipo celebrates Easter with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul in Tavira

Under the direction of conductor Rui Pinheiro, the Orchestra will interpret two emblematic works by Bach

A concert where Grupo Vocal Olisipo joins the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, dedicated to Bach's work, will take place at Igreja do Carmo, in Tavira, on Easter Sunday, 21st, at 18:00.

This is the third concert of the Algarve International Music Festival (FIMA), which will be dedicated to the “Great Periods in the History of Music”, highlighting the Baroque period, in the work of the musical genius of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Under the direction of conductor Rui Pinheiro, the Orchestra will interpret two works that mirror the activity of the German composer, divided between sacred and profane music: to begin with, the “Orquestral Suite No. 3”, which begins with the whole splendor that characterizes the Baroque period and includes the famous “Aria” for strings.

“Magnificat” will follow, probably one of the pinnacles of religious music of all times. To interpret this work, the Orquestra Clássica do Sul invited one of the reference ensembles in the Portuguese choral scene, the Grupo Vocal Olisipo, which will share the stage with the orchestra's musicians, on this special afternoon.

The “Magnificat” is one of three New Testament songs used in Vespers, or in the afternoon prayer, in worship in most Christian churches as part of the Divine Office. The splendor of its orchestration, the variety of forms and styles used and the virtuosity applied in writing, make “Magnificat” a reference in liturgical music.

The concert “Great Periods in the History of Music – the Baroque” will take place in the emblematic Igreja do Carmo, in the city of Tavira, on Easter Sunday, at 18 pm.

Tickets cost 12 euros and can be purchased at the venue, on the day of the show, starting at 17 pm, and through the online ticket office, available by clicking here.
