GNR and Guardia Civil oversee young finalists looking for drugs

High school senior travels have a history of drug and alcohol abuse

The GNR and the Servicio Marítimo Guardia Civil are, until this Monday, April 8, at the border of Vila Real de Santo António, to detect the transport of drugs and alcohol by young people on their way to southern Spain for the traditional finalist trips.

The second phase of “Operation Spring Break” will then inspect the buses that transport the finalists.

The objective is to "prevent the adoption of risky behavior, inherent to the consumption of drugs and alcohol, by the young population, who travel, at this time of year, to southern Spain and Catalonia on school holidays", explains the GNR

Military personnel and dogs specializing in drug detection "carry out surveillance actions along land borders, in order to detect the practice of illegal activities associated with the consumption of narcotics, as well as guaranteeing the safety conditions of the vehicles that will transport the young people", he says. the GNR.

These actions are also taking place on the borders of Vilar Formoso (Guarda) and Caia (Portalegre).

The traditional journeys by 12th grade students to places like Lloret del Mar or Torremolinos have a history associated with drug and alcohol abuse.

In 2017, a group of 1000 Portuguese students was even expelled from the hotel due to contempt and vandalism.
