Irene Rolo Foundation receives donation to promote healthy eating

The Algarve Foundation project was one of the 12 supported by Missão Continente

The “Sabores com Afeto” project of the Irene Rolo Foundation, in Tavira, will receive 23.500 euros from Missão Continente, to remodel the institution's kitchen, cafeteria and bar.

The Algarve Foundation, which was one of the 12 winners of the 2018/2019 edition of the Mission Continente Donation, will thus implement the project “Sabores com Afeto” which also aims to promote “a healthy, varied and balanced diet among the target population, users with disabilities and collaborators, working closely with the Foundation's partners”, says Missão Continente.

“Sabores com Afeto” will also raise awareness of “food health and re-educate people towards balanced and healthy eating behaviors, transforming the bar's dynamism into a socially useful activity to be performed by users with disabilities”.

The Continente Mission Donation «intends to support the best national projects that work in the areas of healthy eating, combating food waste and social inclusion through the food system».

In the 2018/2019 edition, the Mission Continente Donation raised, through the sale of solidarity gifts in all Continente stores, 240 thousand euros which it distributed to the 12 winning projects, chosen from the 179 applications received.

After a first stage of public voting, the projects were evaluated and analyzed in depth by the specialized jury, which considered their justification, relevance, coherence, sustainability and suitability for the target audience.

The jury was composed by the National School of Public Health of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the Portuguese Association for Hospital Development, the General Directorate of Health, the National Program for the Promotion of Healthy Eating, the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova Lisbon and GRACE – Reflection and Support Group for Corporate Citizenship.
