European Sports City will have Windsurfing, motorcycling, handball and Frisbee

Lots of sport in late April and early May in Portimão

The Windsurfing World Championship, the European Ultimate – Frisbee, the Oliveira Cup, the Laser Run Global City Tour and the Portimão International Tournament in Handball M50, for veterans, are some of the activities that will mark the end of April and the beginning of May, in Portimão, European City of Sport 2019.

As far as water sports are concerned, the Windsurfing World Championship is taking place until May 5th in Praia da Rocha.

This competition, organized by Windptm and Clube Naval de Portimão, in addition to attracting figures from the world of Windsurfing, will promote events aimed at the promises of the sport, such as Techno 293, in which a Paralympic class will participate (between 21 and 27 April) , Formula Windsurfing (April 28th to May 2nd) and Formula Foil (May 3rd to 5th).

The competition will be attended by 120 athletes from 15 countries, including the Spanish Olympic athlete Marina Alabau, who won gold in the RSX discipline, and Steve Allen, former champion in the Formula modality.

On April 27, the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo de Portimão will host the International Tournament of Portimão Handball M50, aimed at male and female veterans, in which the Portuguese teams of DAC Douro Andebol Clube, Esferantástica ACD/Boa Hora, Masters Handball Algarve/CCD will participate Olhão and M50 Portugal Handball, in addition to the Spanish teams of Club Handbol Sant Fost (Barcelona) and ASAB Sevilla.

A day later, on the 28th of April, the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve will host a stage of the Olive Cup, a pioneer motorcycling trophy in Portugal and aimed at attracting and training young aspiring speed bike riders, with the seal of Miguel Oliveira and the support of his official fan club.

With more than fifty entries, between 6 and 12 years old, the two-and-a-half span riders will race in the Ohvale, MiniGP and Naked categories, which constitute the basis for the initiation and development of the first steps in speed.

Yes, the Ultimate European Championship – Frisbee, takes place between the 6th and 11th of May, in Praia da Rocha, with the participation of 22 countries, a total of 88 teams registered and 1350 players. The official competition is divided into 14 fields.

This competition, in which Portugal will be present with four teams, is organized by the World Flying Disc Federation, in association with BULA Ltd and the Portuguese Association of Ultimate and Disco Sports, with the support of the Municipality of Portimão.

On the 5th of May, Portimão Arena will host the Laser Run Global City Tour, a sporting activity that is the latest creation of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon and which integrates the disciplines of running and laser shooting, «in a continuous and interspersed format. where the physical and mental aspects come together», explains the City Council of Portimão.

Athletes of all ages can practice the sport, "in which the playful, recreational, well-being and physical condition dimensions also have an important role," adds the municipality.

Over the next few days, Portimão will also host, between April 27 and May 11, a Beach Volleyball Camp, in Praia da Rocha, the Euros 2019 Games, which the Algarve Social Security Workers' Culture and Sports Center promotes in various locations in Portimão, between April 27th and May 4th, and the Congress of the Portuguese Swimming Coaches Association and Iberian Congress, which takes place at Portimão Arena, between April 26th and 29th.

These three events "will bring a few hundred participants to the municipality", concludes the Câmara de Portimão.
