A bather who was missing on the beach at Bordeira/Carrapateira, on the coast of Aljezur, was rescued this afternoon, still alive, by the lifeguards of the Amarok vehicle of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos.

The alert for the disappearance of the bather, a man of German nationality around 50 years old, was received by the local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos this Thursday, at 14:15 pm.

Once the alert was received, the Lagos Maritime Police picket, a semi-rigid vessel from the Sagres Lifeguard Station, Aljezur Firefighters, INEM and the ISN Amarok vehicle were immediately mobilized to the scene.

About 20 minutes later, the bather was seen in the water, and he was recovered ashore by the lifeguards of the Amarok vehicle, who started resuscitation maneuvers at the site, together with INEM and the Firemen of Aljezur.

The bather was later transported to a hospital unit, but in serious condition.

Carrapateira beach, on the west coast, is known for its strong and dangerous currents, so all care is needed when bathing there, especially on rough seas.
