Video Lucem takes treasure of Portuguese cinema to the Portimão Museum

The show will be a construction with collectives from Portimão, under the direction of Flávia Gusmão

An “authentic treasure of Portuguese cinema”, “rarely shown”. This is how the film «Heroes of the Sea», made in 1949 by Fernando Garcia, and whose sound was lost, is described. It will be screened on Friday, March 15, at 21 pm, in the auditorium of the Portimão Museum, on Wednesday Video Lucem session.

The show, an itinerary that includes dinner and a movie-concert, will be a construction with collectives from Portimão, under the direction of Flávia Gusmão, presented in a place linked to the sea and its people, the Museu de Portimão, another unexpected space of the festival Video Lucem, which is part of the 365Algarve program.

“Heróis do Mar” portrays the life and work of cod fishermen who left for distant lands. A cod ship takes to the high seas one of the most beloved Portuguese actors – António Silva.

The film also shows the first film role of actress Isabel de Castro, here with a double role, in which she also plays a male character.

This cinema-performance moment will be a symbolic gesture of homage to the unknown film, its protagonists and all those who lived the arduous life of cod fishing.

Tickets cost 5 euros and can be purchased at online ticket office www.bol.pt

In its 3rd edition, the Video Lucem festival proposes to reveal a very special set of films: partially lost or unfinished films. They are works of art in their own right, which History or the inclemency of the days has voted to invisibility and oblivion.

Video Lucem suggests seeing in these films the enormous and creative power of what was left unsaid, made to music, to be realized. Hence, musicians, actors and other artists were challenged to fill these gaps. In this case, this mission is entrusted to a group from Portimão. The starting point is the script or the original idea of each film, as well as the narratives about what led to its status as interrupted objects.

The spectator is asked to dream, to imagine what is not seen, what is not immediately heard or what is left unfinished. In this way, it will become part of that film, in that unrepeatable moment when these films come back to life and are, once again, in new artistic and exhibition contexts, the engine of creation.

Video Lucem is once again organized by the Cineclube de Faro, with support from 365Algarve.
