A wave overturned a fishing boat, with three people on board, at dawn this Friday, March 22, three miles southwest of the Port of Portimão. The fishermen, all Portuguese, were transported to the Hospital with signs of hypothermia.

The alert was given at 4:34 am. The Search and Rescue Coordination Center immediately engaged several means, including the Navy's rapid inspection boat “Hidra”, a boat from the Naufragos Institute of Relief (ISN), the fishing boats “Gemini” and “Indio ” and a Portuguese Air Force EH-101 helicopter.

The ISN speedboat, with the help of NRP Hidra, detected the vessel “Foz do Arade” around 6:00 am, with three crew members seated on the vessel.

At 06:05 am, the crew, who showed signs of hypothermia, were rescued to the ISN boat that transported them to the marina in Portimão, where ambulances were already in place to provide the first necessary care.

All were then sent to the Hospital de Portimão.
