Show «the region in its different facets», with activities such as sailing baptisms and diving, bird watching and hiking. This is how the Algarve Nature Fest will be, taking place from 20th to 22nd September, in Olhão, and where all activities will be free.

This event replaces Algarve Nature Week, an initiative that had the same genesis, but lasted a week.

Ao Sul Informação, João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), explained that the change was due to the desire to «concentrate all activities in a single weekend».

«This year it will be in September and not in the months between March and May, as usual. Basically, we want to take advantage of the beginning of the low season to promote nature tourism. So let's make known the region in its different facets», he said.

João Fernandes, President of the Algarve Tourism Region

The Algarve Nature Fest was officially presented this Thursday, March 14th, at Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL), but it is in Olhão, at Jardim Pescador Olhanense and Passeio Ribeirinho, that it will take place.

“We are going to have activities specifically aimed at children in the municipality so that they can enjoy the local offer. It is very important that the younger ones take ownership of what is theirs and which they often do not know about. They will have, for example, river boat trips», the president of the Algarve Tourism Region told our newspaper.

This is a work with a special importance in the opinion of João Fernandes.

"If the youngest were sensitized to the issues of nature, they will be better decision makers and better agents of tourist information, along with their parents and relatives", he considered.

For children and adults, there will then be the possibility of doing stand up paddle, mountain biking or riding a segway completely for free, in this new event with the seal of the RTA.

Applications can be made here, on the Algarve Nature Fest website, but have not yet opened.
