Musical “Milho por Peixe” takes the stage in Silves

Play is staged by Giacomo Scalisi

The musical show for children and families “Milho por Peixe” will take the stage at Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório, in Silves, on April 6th, atat 15:30 pm.

In this play, the story of Fatú will be told – and sung – “a girl who lived in a village where corn was planted and ate… only corn”, according to the Municipality of Silves.

"In this musical there are different sounds and musical styles, ranging from Rap to Reggae, mixing with Portuguese rhythms, singing traditional Togolese songs", added the municipality.

The show is produced by CENEA Associação Cultural and has artistic direction, dramaturgy and staging by Giacomo Scalisi.

The musical “Milho por Peixe” is the result of an artistic residency held in January 2018, at the invitation of Madalena Victorino (Choreographer and Cultural Programmer) to be part of the 4th edition of MIRAGEM – Artistic and Pedagogical Project in the field of Performing Arts in schools of Municipality of Odemira.

«In this residence, a musician and a dancer [André Duarte and Arantxa Joseph] joined the wise artistic gaze of Giacomo Scalisi. Each with different qualities and knowledge, they were inspired by a tale collected orally from the West African Coast, in the Republic of Togo and create a musical where simplicity and authenticity are notorious for the absence of an elaborate set design or special effects», describes the Chamber of Silves.
