The third edition of the half marathon Água de Faro takes place on the 30th of March, starting at 17 pm, and a “great participation of athletes” is expected.
The race, organized by Fagar, City Council of Faro and the Algarve Athletics Association, has a 21-kilometre route, approved by the Portuguese Athletics Federation since 2018, «and challenges all those who accept to participate in it to revisit the unique brand of Faro's landscapes», says the municipality.
The starting shot will be fired at Praia de Faro, followed by passages through the Ludo Nature Reserve, Teatro das Figuras, Cidade Velha, Igreja da Sé, Rua de Santo António and ending next to the Doca de Recreio.
This year, the competition will have some new features in order to provide an even more pleasant experience for the participants. In addition to the usual transport features to Praia de Faro and cloakroom service, in this edition the organization will also provide free meals and changing rooms near the goal.
For Paulo Gouveia da Costa, president of Fagar, this third edition aims to cement the international status of the event, as well as enhance the best of the city of Faro.
«Our expectation is to consolidate and affirm the international status that this young race already has, guaranteeing the quality of the race and, at the same time, reinforcing the image of the Água de brand. Faro, in a context of valuing everything that the city has to offer to those who visit us”, guaranteed the president of the organizing entity.
Rosa Mota, the official godmother of the event, appeals, in turn, for the presence of everyone in the race, stressing the particularity of the match being given at dusk, which provides memorable images.
«Join us in this race, it's a beautiful route at sunset. I already participated in the 1st edition and I have the best memories», referred the Olympic medalist in a promotional video.
Those who like shorter routes, but no less exciting, can opt for the 10 km mini marathon.
During the entire event, environmental precautions are taken care of and, in addition to the water supply being made from recyclable paper cups, Fagar has a dedicated group to ensure the cleaning of all the waste left by the many participants.
