Blue light in the Olhão Chamber raises awareness of child abuse

Students will build a human blue bond at the Municipal Stadium

The City Hall of Olhão will light up with a blue color in April, as part of the Month for the Prevention of Mistreatment in Childhood and Youth. Throughout the month, there will also be a set of awareness actions, which aim to remember and collective responsibility for the prevention of abuse.

This month of prevention against child abuse has its high point on April 30, at 9:30 am, with the construction of a human blue tie in the Municipal Stadium, with the participation of schools and IPSSs in the municipality, «with the objective to sensitize the school community to the problem».

The City Council of Olhão explains that «the Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989 in the United States, when Bonnie W.Finney tied a blue ribbon to the antenna of her car, as a tribute to her two grandchildren, both victims of abuse. The blue, which symbolizes the color of the injuries, would serve him as a constant reminder of his struggle to protect children from violence and neglect».

For the municipality, "the story of this grandmother demonstrates the effect that the concern of a single citizen can have in raising public awareness of abuse against children, in preventing it and in promoting and protecting their rights."
