Group of sixty-year-olds will walk between Chaves and Faro by EN2

Three men left Chaves today and will cover the 738,5 kilometers of the EN2 to Faro, in 25 days

Three hikers, all sixty-year-olds, left Chaves today to walk the 738,5 kilometers of Estrada Nacional 2, a 25-day journey that will end in Faro on April 11th.

The group called “Palmilhar EN2” is composed of Orlando Valério, João Silva and Francisco Romeira, aged 68, 60 and 61, respectively, who will have logistical support from Jorge Nunes (60 years old).

The three hikers decided to enter this adventure "only and only because they like and practice morning walk daily for more than three years". His curriculum includes the Via Algarviana, the Caminhos de Santiago and «many of the Algarve's pedestrian paths», according to the União de Freguesias de Faro.

With this long journey, the group also intends to «contribute to the dissemination of the EN2 Route, but this time on foot».

The plan is to complete the trip in 25 days, which means walking an average of 30 kilometers a day.
"In the last three months, in addition to intensifying training, they programmed all the logistics, asking for support, particularly for sleeping," according to the union of parishes from Faro, which sponsors the adventure.

The adhesion of the municipalities belonging to the EN2 Route “was significant” and the four adventurers have a safe haven at the place where they will finish and begin each stage.

The members of the group carry with them passports from Route N2, "which will be stamped at various crossing points", as well as "a diary in which each one will make their own noteworthy notes, which they intend to condense and turn into a book".

The adventure can be followed daily via facebook, in the "Palmilhar EN2" group.
