Opening concert of FIMA 2019 is dedicated to Romanticism

Maxime Tortelier is the guest conductor for the Opening Concert of the Algarve International Music Festival (FIMA 2019), which will take place at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, next Sunday, March 31 at 17:00. In this show, entitled “Great Periods in the History of Music – Romanticism”, Jed Barahal, North American cellist, will take the place of the soloist.

The Algarve International Music Festival – FIMA, returns for its 34th edition «with an eclectic program, with a total of 14 concerts to be held in different locations in the region».

In the first concert, dedicated to the great periods of the History of Music, the Orquestra Clássica do Sul presents itself with symphonic formation, with the participants of the Academia OCS, on the stage of the Cineteatro Louletano.

Featured in the Opening Concert, Romanticism, which was strongly “marked by lyricism and emotion and often portrays human drama, tragic loves and utopian ideals. An excellent example of this in music was the entire production of Russian composer PI Tchaikovsky», explains Rui Pinheiro, artistic director of the festival.

In this context, the program of this concert is composed of the “Fifth Symphony” by Tchaikovsky, the “Concerto for Cello” by E. Elgar and the Overture of “Ruslan and Lyudmila” by M. Glinka.

Elgar's “Concerto for Cello” was one of the last works by the British composer who, despite having been composed in the 1919th century (in XNUMX), can be considered one of the last masterpieces of the romantic spirit. It will be performed by Jed Barahal, cellist of American origin, who has been a soloist in renowned orchestras such as the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (Brazil), Toulouse Capitol Orchestra (France) and Regie Sinfonia (Porto).

FIMA 2019 takes place from March 31st to May 31st and invites nationally and internationally renowned artists such as conductor Maxime Tortelier, violinists Daniel Stabrawa and Christoph Koncz, percussionist Jean-François Lézé, violist Máté Szücs, cellist Jed Barahal , soprano Dora Rodrigues and also groups such as Grupo Vocal Olisipo, Jordi Savall & Hespèrion XXI, PLINT – Pablo Lapidusas International Trio and Orquestra do Norte with conductor Jan Wierzba and cellist Marco Pereira.
