“Operação Praia Limpa 2019”, a Zoomarine initiative, this year will involve, for the first time and simultaneously, the municipalities of Albufeira, Silves and Lagoa, to raise awareness of the importance of the sustainability of marine ecosystems.
The action takes place on the 12th of May and, in the municipality of Albufeira, will be staged at the beaches of Salgados and Galé-Oeste. Applications to participate must be made online, between April 8th and May 10th.
“Operação Praia Limpa” began in 2017, in conjunction with “Operação Montanha Verde” and is part of the environmental responsibility initiative “Together We Protect”, which aims to remove over several kilometers (at the level of the coastal strip and seabed), debris resulting from human action, increasingly present on beaches.
On the beaches of the municipality of Albufeira, dozens of volunteers are expected on a morning (9:30 am/12:00 am) when it is intended that «many friendly hands free the sand from plastics, butts, cans, fishing gear, boat parts, pieces of household appliances, among other hazardous waste», stresses the Municipality of Albufeirense.
The company Águas do Algarve also joined the initiative, similarly to the “ODS Alliance” – Objectives for the Sustainable Development of Portugal.
