A Rite of Spring Made in China takes the stage at the Theater of Figures

The main inspiration for this creation comes from Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Army

Two performances of the contemporary dance piece The Rite of Spring – Made in China, in an unprecedented show, in partnership with the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, will take the stage at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, on the 22nd and 23rd of March, Friday and Saturday.

This new version, inspired by the classic ballet created for the Parisian company Russian Ballets, has choreography and concept by Daniel Cardoso, artistic director of the dance company Quorum Ballet, with Chinese Xie Xin as guest choreographer, dramaturgy by Pedro Alves and musical composition by Jorge Silva.

A Rite of Spring – Made in China is a choreographic work produced, conceived and carried out in full collaboration between Portugal and China, as part of an artistic residency of Quorum Ballet in that country.

The production premiered on January 24, 2018, at the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, and then expanded to Wuhan, Changsha and Zhuzhou, in a total of six shows with 7500 spectators.

According to Daniel Cardoso, “this piece will reveal the crossroads of our histories and of the Chinese artists we met and worked with. […] The Rite of Spring will be the territory where Portuguese and Chinese artists meet. The piece will be a journey inspired by Chinese culture through a Western look. The main inspiration for this creation comes from Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Army.”

In the two sessions that will take place at Teatro das Figuras, the iconic work of Igor Stravinsky will be performed by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, under the direction of Rui Pinheiro, principal conductor of that formation.

The entire schedule for the month of March, as well as information regarding prices, reservations and online sales, is available on the Teatro das Figuras website and is regularly available on social networks. Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
