Cultural tour took Friends of the Portimão Museum to the Ajuda Palace

GAMP also visited the exhibition “A History of Astonishment. Portugal-Japan XNUMXth-XNUMXth Centuries”

An «excellent and stimulating» journey through the history of the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, in Lisbon, among the numerous rooms of the former royal residence. That palace was, on Saturday, the 9th, the place chosen for the first cultural visit of the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum in 2019.

Guided by José Alberto Ribeiro, director of the Palace, the initiative allowed a more enlightened look and a better perception of the options, tastes, social, political and cultural contexts of the Portuguese monarchs, being an excellent opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the valuable and remarkable heritage preserved there.

This was followed by a convivial gastronomic moment at the Estufa Real, with the Friends of the Museum of Portimão, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Botanical Garden.

At the end of the program, there was also a visit to the exhibition “A History of Astonishment. Portugal-Japan XNUMXth-XNUMXth Centuries”, in the company of Maria José Tavares, curator of the exhibition, who revealed the complex history of encounters, disagreements and re-encounters between Portugal and Japan over five centuries.
