A delegation from the University of the Algarve (UAlg) visited Mozambique, from 17 to 25 February, with the aim of promoting research and postgraduate education in the Algarve academy in that African country.

“This project aims to improve the quality of life of fishing communities located in the Bons Sinais Estuary, in Zambézia,” says UAlg.

During the second day of this visit, it was agreed, in Luanda, with the rector of the Eduardo Mondlane University Orlando António Quilambo, the integration of the Agostinho Neto University in CEEMAR – Collaborative Platform of Excellence for the Sea Sciences in Africa.

“This union will facilitate collaboration between UAlg and African institutions, both in terms of advanced training and in joint research projects in the area of the sea”.

On February 19, the delegation met with the provincial delegate of the National Institute for Research on Fisheries of Zambézia, Daniel Oliveira Mualeque, visiting several fishing communities.

During the 22nd, in Quelimane, the BioFish project began, which was attended by Cardoso Henriques Meque (provincial director of Zambézia), Fialho Nehama (director of the School of Sea and Coastal Sciences – ESCMC), Francisco Leitão (coordinator of the BioFish project and CCMAR-UAlg researcher), Alexandra Teodósio (Vice-Dean UAlg and CCMAR researcher), João Encarnação (Doctoral student at UAlg-CCMAR), as well as countless ESCMC teachers and students and heads of local fishing communities.
