Rural World Days Debate Forest and Agriculture in Alcoutim

Event is organized by the Chambers of Alcoutim and Mértola

Forest and agriculture are the central themes of the Rural World Days taking place on 1st and 2nd March, at Espaço Guadiana, in Alcoutim.

The councils of Alcoutim and Mértola jointly organize the initiative.

This organization "derives from an integrated vision of territory that understands that the geography of the problems and challenges that these two Municipalities face (low density, vulnerability to desertification and climate change) does not fit in with the administrative geographies of the territories", says the Chamber of Alcoutim.

In this sense, «these two Municipalities have initiated a set of joint and/or complementary reflections, initiatives and projects in various areas», he adds.

The event has the participation of a «prestigious group of speakers from relevant institutions for the sector, with the strategic and transversal objective of presenting the challenges and opportunities that professionals and institutions have to face, and on which it is important to reflect global form, with spaces open to debate around the issues presented».

Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, Júlio Cabrita, from the Algarve Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Fisheries, and Ricardo Bernardino, Rural GAL – Terras do Baixo Guadiana, are some of the entities invited to the event, which will also feature close to two dozen speakers.

The dissemination of examples of good practices already underway will also be one of the points of interest, where organizations, large and small, identify the competitiveness factors and the challenges that local companies will present.

With the opening scheduled for 9:45 am on Friday, March 1st, the event has free participation and is open to the general public.
